PRACTICE
Art as Evidence
My practice investigates how landscapes, objects, and built environments become records of human activity. Working across painting, sculpture, assemblage, and installation, I use found materials, fragmented imagery, and processes of erosion and reconstruction to examine what remains, what disappears, and how meaning is assigned to what survives.
Daytime Distress (2026) | Found maritime distress flag, plywood, charcoal, railroad spike in wood frame | 21 x 21 x 2 in.
The Weight of Position (2026) | Salvaged steel anchor, wire, dock line & wood frame | 48 x 32 x 8 in.
Not Under Command (2026) | Found wooden boat keel, torn daytime distress signal, cord, graphite | 36 × 42 × 3 in.
Harbor Remains (2026) | Mixed media, collage, dock line, found objects and buoy on canvas. | 48 x 32 x 8 in.
CORE PRACTICE
Buetsche’s work operates within a defined system:
horizons that shift or fail
signals that appear, degrade, or disappear
structures that resist collapse, but never fully hold
Surfaces are built through layering, abrasion, and removal. This allows forms to emerge and recede simultaneously.
Bell Weather | Factory Bell, Pennant Flag, wood and rope | 2026
Last Dock | Mixed media, collage, wood & dock line on canvas | 2026
Materials + Method
My work combines painting, collage, subtraction, surface abrasion, and found elements such as rope, wood, marine fragments, and worn industrial materials.
Works are built through layering, concealment, abrasion, subtraction, and the integration of reclaimed rope, wood, marine fragments, and weathered surfaces.
Reconstruction as Process
How incomplete information becomes the basis for new objects, environments, and interpretations.
Tether Point | Mixed media, collage, wood, salvaged boat window & anchor on canvas | 2026
The Room Has a Voice
How architecture, placement, scale, and the viewer's movement participate in the work.
Burn Point | Mixed media, collage & burnt metal on canvas | 64x48 in. | 2026
